I have been active as an artist in the carnival scene of basel for almost 30 years. I have created everything from paintings to large lanterns. For almost three decades, I have been a passionate and dedicated artist in the exciting world of the carnival scene. During this long period, I have produced a wide range of creative works, from breathtaking paintings to imposing lanterns.
The Basel carnival and the months leading up to it are a very special time of year for me, as it gives me the opportunity to fully express my creative energy. Every year I work hard to develop new ideas and then transform them into impressive works of art. Whether it’s colourful paintings or monumental lanterns, each work is an expression of my personal vision and my inexhaustible enthusiasm for the fascinating world of carnival.

Whether it’s the large shop window of a shop or the kitchen window of a flat – with the carnival figures, you can create the perfect carnival decoration in no time at all. I have designed the stylish figures with great attention to detail.

The fun memory training for young and old comes in a new guise, with colourful carnival heroes! These revive characters such as the “Blätzlibajass” and the “Hemmliglunggi” and invite you to marvel and discuss. This not only trains the memory, but also cultivates the Basel German vocabulary.

The game was designed on the initiative of the two Basel artists, graphic designers and illustrators Guido Happle (GiZ) and Tarek Moussalli. It is the first collaboration between the two two-time Blaggedde artists. They deliberately opted for a high-quality and local production. The games were produced by the Basel-based Weizenkorn Foundation, a social enterprise that mainly employs people with support needs.

Competition win for the second time in a row. Following the demise of the shop in 2016, the Basel Art Museum is the centre of attention this year.
The plaque is a tribute to the Basel Art Museum and its new building. The idea came up during the last carnival. Simply depicting the building was out of the question; instead, a picture frame was chosen to symbolise the works of art. And the picture frame also gave rise to the motto: “Mer spränge dr Raame”.

Fasnachts Comité Basel

Winning the competition for the first time. The 2016 carnival badges tell a fascinating story, which is a first in the long tradition of Basel carnival badges. This story is about the death of shops in Basel’s city centre and is presented in three acts: On the copper plaque, the shop is still open, but the Waggis is already starting to turn the crank. On the silver one, the shop is only half open and its direction is predetermined. Finally, the gold badge shows the shutter completely closed – there is nothing left to buy because the shop is closed. “Mer mache dicht” – that’s the motto for 2016.

Carefully put together and admired with much joy and enthusiasm, this puzzle makes the hearts of all Fasnacht fans beat faster. Available exclusively in the Spielegge shop on Spalenberg

Stage design for the performance of the clique “Jungi Garde Muggedätscher” at the pre-carnival event laaferi

The lantern plays a central role in the world of carnival cliques. It is not just a simple accessory, but rather a sanctuary for each individual group. The lantern embodies the creativity and cohesion of a clique and is designed with great dedication. The lanterns are illuminated from the inside so that the artistic work comes into its own. The soft light penetrates through the painted canvas to the outside, allowing even the smallest detail to shine.

At the “Morgestraich”, the front cortege is equipped with “Stäggelatärne” (stick lanterns). All tambourines and pipers also have small head lanterns at the Morgenstreich. These small lanterns not only serve to help them play themselves, but also symbolize their contribution to lighting the way for all other participants in the morning strike.

In groups, alone or in pairs, the “Schnitzelbängg” make fun of the grievances and events of the past year. They sing to various melodies and use verses written in Basel German. Each verse is accompanied by pictures – so-called Helgen – which visually underline the punchline once again. These small works of art are skillfully staged and make the audience smile or even laugh out loud.
